IR Best Practice

About the Awards

Setting the standard

The awards were started in 2001 to encourage best practice in communications through the web site. The Society has extended the awards to include both on-line and printed communication in key areas of the business review.

The Investor Relations Society encourages adoption of the best practice by organising an annual awards programme to honour those companies that lead the way in the practice of investor communication. It is hoped that the winners and other shortlisted companies will offer a benchmark against which other companies can measure their own IR activities.

The Society publishes Best Practice Guidelines which are reviewed regularly to ensure that the site provides up-to-date guidance.

How we review entries

All entries are reviewed and scored against a checklist, which is based on the Best Practice Guidelines published on this site, and the criteria, which are explained in the awards entry forms. The top scoring entries for each award category are peer reviewed by experienced IR officers drawn from the Society’s board of directors, who draw up a shortlist. The winners are chosen from the shortlist by a panel of judges drawn from users of accounts.

The judging panel for 2010 will include:

  • John Dawson (Chairman) – Deputy Chairman of the Investor Relations Society
  • Harry McAdoo – Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales
  • Liz Murrall – UK Investment Management Association
  • David Paterson – National Association of Pension Funds

How to enter

All companies quoted on a recognised stock exchange are invited to enter the awards. Companies or their representatives can submit entries for any of the award categories. We would encourage all companies who are proud of their accounts or website to enter the competition.
