What a difference a year makes. The price per barrel of oil has nearly halved, attacked by the law of supply and demand. We find ourselves in an over-supply environment, driven by geo-politics, war and advances in technology. We look at the main players in the arena and the effects of the oil price closer to home: the UK stock market and pension funds.
Not many predicted the dramatic fall in oil prices, and there is no consensus as to when prices will recover. Optimistic analysts predict some recovery by the end of 2016, while others are more pessimistic and are expecting years of suppressed prices. Either way, the global reliance on carbon based fuels means we are all affected.
