It has been revealed this week following 13-F filings to the SEC in the US that several large hedge funds took or increased their stakes in Wall Street bank stocks during the fourth quarter of 2011, predicting that the banking sector would recover and send stock prices upward. An article in DealB%k states that the slide throughout much of 2011 reversed somewhat in the last quarter drawing in hedge fund investors. So far this year the news has also been positive for Wall Street banks with the article stating "All five of the largest American banks have seen their stock prices rise in 2012, and Bank of America, last year’s black sheep, is up more than 40 percent".
